The Nature of Absence

In his book «Inventory of Summer», Raoul Schrott describes absence as the abandonment of a place where essential life has resided, awake and asleep. The being itself, the living being, the existing is a form of being. The word goes back to an Indo-European root that means to linger. Staying in the sense of «spending the night somewhere protected from wind and weather (winter)».

During the residency we turned to the absence of things and created music together by making music and improvising, which we presented at the Nonostar festival at the end of the residency.

In a world that is overloaded and in which there seem to be no points of rest, the absence of sensible things such as sounds and images becomes a place of longing. The DELTAHAUS Rosow offers this place of longing and we were able to make it real.

Raoul Schrott beschreibt in seinem Buch »Inventur des Sommers« die Abwesenheit als die Verlassenheit eines Ortes, wo sich wesenhaftes Leben aufgehalten hat, wachend und schlafend. Das Wesen an sich, das Lebewesen, das Dagewesene ist eine Form des Seins. Das Wort geht zurück auf eine indoeuropäische Wurzel, die soviel bedeutet wie Verweilen. Verweilen im Sinne von »Irgendwo übernachten im Schutz vor Wind und Wetter (Winter)«

Während der Residenz haben wir uns der Abwesenheit von Dingen zugewendet, und in gemeinsamem Musizieren und Improvisieren eine Musik geschaffen, welche wir zum Ende der Residenz auf dem Nonostar festival präsentiert haben.

In einer Welt, die überladen ist und in der es keine Ruhepunkte zu geben scheint, wird die Abwesenheit der sinnlich wahrnehmbaren Dinge wie Geräusche und Bilder zu einem Sehnsuchtsort. Diesen Sehnsuchtsort bietet das DELTAHAUS Rosow und wir konnten ihn real werden lassen.
